Chroely

A large flightless bird with small wings, but incredible aerodynamics. While the Chroely are far more difficult to tame than a horse and require not only to be broken like a horse, but also a trained loyalty, they are a faster method of mounted travel. Compared to horses, they allow less weight compensation and such can only pull small wagons in numbers, and require more watering stops, as well as a diet with protein such as rodents and small game.

Physeology

Chroely range from 6 to 8ft tall, their body where a saddle can be attached is about half way between narrow legs and a long neck. Their talons range from front claw to rear claw about 15 to 24 inches. their legs have a diameter of about 3 to 5 inches, and their neck had a diameter of about 4 to 6 inches. Their beaks are between 5 and 8 inches long and their head are narrow yet quite ploomed with their feathers, giving them a relatively goofy, fluffy looking face, the shape of which is relatively close to that of a hawk or a crow, but with slightly larger and higher eyes. The wingspan is about one and a half times their height from feather tip to feather tip, making them incapable of flight. Chroely can live up to 40 years and as such have a severely stronger sense of loyalty compared to most other mounts.

Characteristics

Chroely are energetic and curious creatures, their higher avian intelligence making them smartest of all mounts. They can become quite mischievous as a result of their personality traits. They will often gently peck at and prod things with their talons and beak to learn what it is. Their loyalty is a powerful personality trait, developing a strong one on one bond with a chroely is to earn a life long companionship. Some chroely are reported to have known to bring their injured rider to their home, or nearest apothecary on their own without any command or input. Some chroely will stay and mourne their fallen rider, should they die in combat, for up to a week. Some have even died curling around their rider, others will even defend the bodies heir fallen rider from strangers tampering with before a friend of the rider that the chroely known can come take the body home or bury them. Because of this level of loyalty, chroely will also jump on the opportunity to defend their rider if a strong enough bond of companionship is formed.
